| This painting depicts the first celestial master of Taoism, Zhang Daoling. In 142 CE Master Zhang had a vision of Lao Tzu, the author of the fundamental Taoist text, the Tao Te Ching. Lao Tzu appeared before Master Zhang, who was a hermit on a holy mountain in Sichuan province, and announced the beginning of the era of Great Peace.
